FedEx Freight East Settles Racial-Bias Lawsuit
FedEx Freight East has agreed to pay $500,000 to settle a lawsuit in which the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) accused the trucking company of denying 20 qualified African American employees promotions and assignments based on their race.

The EEOC alleged in the lawsuit that American Freightways, which was subsequently acquired by FedEx, discriminated against African Americans in making promotions from part-time to full-time dockworker positions, promotions to dock supervisor positions, and work assignments at its St. Louis terminal.

In addition to $500,000 in monetary relief, the consent decree resolving the litigation--pending approval by the U.S. District Court in St. Louis--also requires reporting by FedEx on promotions from part-time to full-time dockworker positions and to dock supervisor positions.

"We are pleased that FedEx corrected the problems at its St. Louis terminal after it acquired American Freightways and now has reached a fair resolution of this lawsuit," says Robert G. Johnson, regional attorney for EEOC's St. Louis District Office.

It's true Mira Loma Fedex National LTL Frt practice discrimination acts, they violate their own handbook, they amend new rules without employees signing or not being aware of changes on handbook.I know its true because I am a driver formerly watkins, ever since fedex took over things have change drastically overnite.I think that we also need to have a union, but if you even talk about the union here in Mira Loma, all the kiss ass will snitch on you instead of sighting with you,I feel bad for one of our own driver who got fired,he believe in union and pass literature for joining the Teamsters, when the company found out, they started to find any reason to write him up and use him as an example of what could happen to you if you bring any more union crap.fedex LTL suspended him for not having airline tickets of attending grandfather funeral till further notice possibility of termination, when this individual brought death certificate and funeral notice and still got fired.Everybody at fedex LTL read your handbook on funeral leave there is no rule about bringing airline tickets and I'am sure nobody signed a new amendment,so lets join fedex frt and join the Teamsters and stand up for our rights!
