Company Seniority at FedEx Doesn't Mean Sh**

This is bullsh*t of what FedEx does now, I was talking to a couple of line haul drivers today, and was told that FedEx doesn’t honor seniority no more.
Let me explain the scenario here, if a driver of local p & d that drove for 20 years as local p & d driver, and then decides to jump into the line haul operation department and transfers to it, he loose his seniority, which is ok, but not loose company seniority for vacation or layoff.
Now as of today, being in the same barn, he has no strap at all, meaning if a suppose a driver like Motto Rider that has 5 years with the company as a line Driver and this other driver that has 20 years of company seniority and just transfer to line haul, will be layoff first before Motto Rider.
Or Motto Rider will have first choice for vacation before that 20 year driver…Irudedog from changefedextowin and Joe warned everybody years ago (2006) that extreme changes were coming, we saw the Big Picture when FedEx took over.
I’ll say it again it’s time to organize now, it’s never too late, but now we have to negotiate what you have lost on the bargaining table.
Everybody that works for a Big Greedy Corporation needs a Collective Bargaining Agreement!!!

I support you man but to clarify point, he would only lose his board seniority, not company seniority. So he wouldn't get laid off first.

What about this scenario.....if a driver has 5yrs driving that got hired off the street,& u have a dockworker who has 10 yrs with the company,& he decides to become a driver( after the "off the street driver was hired).who has more seniority.?

Company Seniority means whatever it says it means in your contract.

To answer your scenario, at fedex dock worker would lose his seniority and go down to bottom of the driver board. I can't tell you how a union does it. It all depends on their contract with their company. Say that we at fedex were unionized and an yrc or another teamster is hired here with 20yrs and you with 5yrs. His seniority does not carry over to fedex. He's a new hire. But he would only have to work only 10 more years to put 30yrs to get his full pension! That's why it is very important that all ltl companies are teamsters, so if you need to change companies, your pension follows you!

U can't tell me how a union co. works.?....but I thought u where educated about unions.Well go ask a UPS freight driver,he'll tell u.!!...So basically what we have here is something that'll benefit some but not others, because to tell u the truth I personally could care less about company seniority.!!

Yes, I can tell you how a union works. But every contract is different, company to company. FedEx freight and Conway are non union companies and each runs differently, wouldn't you say? Yes ask a UPS driver and A YRC dock worker how it works at their company, and while you are at it, ask them also about their defined pension and retirement medical benefits. And you my friend who doesn’t care about seniority are obviously a manager/ union buster!

I'm not a manager /union buster,I'm a driver.I only commented because of the original post.I actually benefit out of what that Blogger said FedEx is doing.Let clarify what I said,a little better. What I could care less is,about another driver out-bidding me on vacation, what I most care about is that driver seniority(start times)....And when I said go ask a UPS driver, they rearranged their whole seniority board to ONLY company seniority. And lastly I know about benefits/pension from union co. Vs. Non-union co.and I know FedEx benefits suck,so its gonna be hard to choose......& I know you're gonna ask me "what do I care about more, startime or benefits.?....& I would have to say, benefits, but we already have that.Maybe not the best, but I wouldn't like to be starting at 3 in the afternoon.////8

Why would you have to start at 3 pm? Unless your a new hire or a driver with only a couple of years with fedex. So you think its fair that a driver who has more years than you should start later than you? There are bids at our hub that jr drivers take because some senior drivers don't want to start that early. That's fine. What would say after you have put 20yrs plus and I have way less years and start early than you? But you don't care about seniority and shouldn't have no problem with it, right?

Why would anyone have to choose Between great benefits. Great pay. And a great retirement package . when you can have them all with a strong contract. your seniority starts the day you're hired. You go where your seniority takes you. You bid start times, vacation, according to your seniority. Lowe seniority may get you un desirable positions at the beginning point in your career as a teamster truck driver. there is a phrase paying your dues. and it's not referring to paying your union dues it has to do with taking shit positions. And being paid very well to do so intel you can bid the gravy positions. And that seniority when you do finally get enough Whiskers To take what start time or route you want to make the most $ and be as flexible as you want to be in your home life. That's what a strong the union contract will get you. not to mention the job protection that it offers you when you might not be like or picked on by a member of management. I've been employed by yrc for 15 + years have been fired twice getting my job back on both occasions last 1 being. For a total of 23 months off and receiving back pay and benefits plus a vacation time and full seniority rights. I came back to work and bumped into were my seniority took me . Let's see that happen at a non union company. Some of you know who I am. Even in the state are contracts in @yrc I was still protected by are contract and our union......
