DRIVER MEETINGS 7-24-07 FONTANA SVC CTR..

There might be driver meetings in fontana today. We will have some VIP's around. If you here talk about any anti-union matters, please inform any of your Organizers if this happens. There could be some Labor Laws being broken. Just because these people are upper management, it doesn't put them above the law!

THE FONTANA COMMITTEE.

I want a union in my workplace,as a part timer, better pay, provide medical benefits and not this expensive cobra deal.Lets protect our conditions for our children.

I'll be for the Teamsters because I have teenage kids who are about to begin their working lives. I want them to grow up in a country that values fairness, not the dog-eat-dog mentality of the United States corparations. We are proud Fedex workers, we should be proud of the good things about our country and fighting to protect them. right Andy

I will be supporting for the rights of my kids and myself. How is there going to be any certainty in there lives when there is the option of employers to stand them down with out pay. How will they be able to plan holidays, get a mortgage or anything when all of a sudden there stood down because there bosses come up with a excuse.By then they will already be on lower wages not much annual leave what chance are we giving our kids, so lets make a stand.

Workers today want greater say at their workplace as much or more than in the 1990s. Workers continue to want to have much greater say at the workplace than the U.S. labor relations systems gives them.

Workers want unions more than ever before. The proportion of workers who want unions has risen substantially over the last 10 years, and a majority of nonunion workers in 2007 would vote for union representation if they could. This is up from the roughly 30% who would vote for representation in the mid-1980s, and the 32% to 39% in the mid-1990s, depending on the survey. Given that nearly all union workers (90%) desire union representation, the mid-1990s analysis suggested that if all the workers who wanted union representation could achieve it, then 44% of the workforce would have union representation. The rise in the desire for union representation since then suggests that the share of the nonunion workforce wanting union representation in 2007 was 53%. These results, in turn, suggest that if workers were provided the union representation they desired in 2005, then the overall unionization rate would have been about 58%.

I'm a part time dockworker, and for me to be a full time employee, is to be a driver, but the truth is I wont pass TSA, now I been stuck in the dock for 2 years, and I am lucky to get at least 24 hrs per week, I have 2 kids with no medical insurance, well fedex says I could get cobra but I can't afford it on 24 hrs, mean while I have to work on another job just to make ends meet.
The real solution to this problem is to allow us dockworkers to be full time, and this way we would qualify for benefits, but this is a slim chance, so the only solution for me and my family is to join the teamsters campaign, after reading all comments on this site they are absolutly right.

After today’s p.m dock meeting, with frank discussing about the pension and 401 k, I have no hope in Fedex future, I can’t afford to contribute in the 401 k, especially being a part time dock worker ,can’t afford it ,and for another reason Fedex does not allow dockworkers to become full time workers, this policy of Fedex sucks.
My uncle at usf reddaway said the new teamsters contract will allow part time workers to become full time workers, with a top pay of $ 22.18 an hour, one other thing at Fedex looking at the old time dock workers they have fringe benefits, and especially Fedex wanna be supervisor also have fringe benefits, who could care less about part time workers, also I” am considering to joining those workers at FedEx who display the union yes sign on their car out side the parking lot, hopefully I will meet one of you guys and obtain a sign for my car.

I am a dockworker who works at the SLO terminal and have just found your blogsite and I am very happy to see that someone has stepped it up to start doing the right thing for some of the best employees in this industry. I hope that soon we can all call ourselves proud "Teamster's" up and down the west coast!
