Corporate Terrorism, Misinformed Driver, Union Buster?

Terrorism:the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion

This is a comment sent to the blog on Nov. 13,2009. If this is really a driver from the Phoenix area and really believes in what he says, then why not leave a name?

"United We Bargain! Divided We Beg". What a crock of horse dung that is!

It never ceases to amaze me how people fall for the crap the union tells them. How come you never see the union trying to organize the small mom and pop trucking companies? Becaue there is no money in it!

You think things are bad now? Just wait until the union takes over! Your Union "Brothers and Sisters" will make you think they love you. They don't. They just want your money so they can give it away to political candidates or organizations you may disagree with. You think the Union bosses don't play the same political games as the corporate heads? Wake up!

Have any of you even attempted to use the open door policy to get resolution to your problems? And I mean used it? Gone all the way up the ladder, or are you all a bunch of wimps just hiding behind the coat tails of a bully/ thug (union) to get your way? And who says you need to PAY the union to do this for you? If there are so many of you to fill a union hall, why not stage your own walk out (without the unions help?). Talk is cheap, action in the light of day is more expensive.

But then again, if you're so damn miserable at Fedex why don't you leave and go work for the financially troubled YRC,or ABF, or any of the other big Teamster companies...oh wait.... there aren't any. Hmmmm, what does that tell you! IBOT(sounds a lot like ROBOT) doesn't care a rats ass about you. All they want is your money.

They will tell you anything you want to hear, but never put it in writing. Promises made mean nothing unless they are in writing and can be enforced.

Back in the day, the union was useful. Today, they are just another corporate entity only worried about their self preservation. Ask how much the union bosses get paid while YOU walk a picket line. It sure as hell isn't anywhere near what the measly strike pay is that you'll have to feed your family on and pay your mortgage with!

Elections have consequences. Voting the union in may feel good in the beginning, but sooner or later you'll realize the HUGE mistake you made and you won't be able to change it without a massive legal effort. Ask the older drivers from OVERNITE about their struggle to RID THEMSELVES of the union.

Buyer beware! A fool and his money are easily parted.

This has been just a little advice from a former So Cal Viking now FedEx P&D driver who has been all over the system but is now in Phoenix.

You must be a manager like Andy Lessin, Greg Faith, Mike Hutton Mike Cendejas, Santiago Rios JR ,Russ, John Hinkley this management is about to lose their jobs when we become teamsters most of this managers will be fire for mistreating the wokers and the company can't afford this kind of shit anymore at this point no management can't stop us to form a union with the teamsters hope this is the last f.....g lie this union busters will be seeing in this blogg wht driver.

This is probably from some manager from SBO or WHT. To answer his question about the Union Companies, well let's see UPS, UPS Freight. I have yet to talk to a UPS driver that was unhappy with his working conditions or pay. I have many friends who are FedEx pilots from my days working at FedEx Express. Fred Smith tried in the beginning to push them around but they would not have it. They came together and they tell Fred when and where the planes fly. Those guys are some of the highest paid pilots in the air. The Aircraft mechanics who are organizing as well. The bottom line is this, Fred will keep giving benefits to the express part timers in order to keep the union talk down. Why is it that FedEx Freight took away the part timers benefits and made a lot of full timers part timers? It is because Fred Smith knows we are not governed by the RLA at FedEx Freight so he wants as many of us out as he can get. He knows that the Union wants to ge the company as a whole. If we go Union as Freight only then Fred Smith will divert the freight to the Express heavyweight trucks and use the National LTL owner operators to move it. Remember this as well, Express is fully capable of flying the freight too. In the old days in Atlanta we sent 747's and DC-10's out fully loaded with nothing but palletized cargo. This all came from the Flying Tiger acquisition. So we have to stick together as a whole unit. Ground, Express, National LTL, and Freight.

This sounds a lot like Andy Lessin which is suprising he is so anti Union when he himself has family members who are staunch Union supporters?

Andy has hurt a lot of people by lying about the changes at Fedex Freight. A lot of people's lives and futures have been hurt my this man's selfishness.

WHAT OPEN DOOR POLICY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. WE BEGGED THEM TO NOT TAKE AWAY OUR BENEFITS. PLEASE DONT MAKE US PART TIME AFTER WE HAVE WORKED SO HARD AND PUT IN 10 15 YEARS AND OTHERS EVEN MORE TO HELP MAKE THIS COMPANY WHAT IT IS TODAY. YOU WANT ALL NEW EMPLOYEES TO BE PART TIME IN THE FUTURE OK, BUT DONT STEAL FROM US THAT HAVE WORKED HERE LOOKING FOR A FUTURE. THERE IS NO OPEN DOOR POLICY THAT WAS VIKING. WHY DONT YOU JUST LEAVE, THEY DONT WANT YOU HERE EITHER WAIT AND SEE. TEAMSTERS ARE BETTER THAN NOTHING AT THIS POINT. YRC IS NOT GOING DOWN BECAUSE OF THE UNION, CF DID NOT GO DOWN BECAUSE OF THE TEAMSTERS, NOR DID EMERY FREIGHT. ALL THESE COMPAINES HAD CEO'S AND MGRS WITH MILLONS IN THEIR POCKETS JUST LIKE GOOD OLD FRED. WHY NOT TAKE THE BENEFITS FROM ALL FOLKS WHO MAKE OVER 70 GRAND A YEAR AND LEAVE US ALONE. SALES FOLKS 80 TO 100 GRAND, OPPS MGRS 70 TO 100 GRAND, CEO'S 150 TO 300 GRAND, YARD MGRS 100 GRAND PLUS. THE RICH GET RICHER, THE POOR GET SCREWED. WERE GOING TO HAVE THE TEAMSTERS LOOK OVER THE BOOKS SOON, WELL SEE WHO CRYS WOLF THEN. WE WELCOME THE TEAMSTERS AND THE SOONER THE BETTER. JD

I was just about to post about the absence of management's input on our organizing effort, then along comes this,"Anonymous" manager or at least a wanna be one.
To reply:
1.If you don't have the courage to identify yourself what you have to say is discounted for content and validity.
2.Organizing mom & pop trucking companies isn't economically feasible.Just like Fedex/UPS and other major carriers,it's a numbers game.Everyone has minimums that they will consider picking up.Otherwise you'll go broke trying to cover everyone.
So the Teamsters likewise has a standard that they adhere to.No mystery,no evil designs just plain economics. This stuff is covered in economics 101.Basic stuff-look it up.
3.Unions contribute to politicians/organizations.Yes,they probably do just like Fedex/UPS and a host of other entities e.g.AMA-thats the American Management Association. It's the way Washington works.Nasty perhaps but it is what it is.
4.Pursuing the ,"Open Door Policy",that door has an,"EXIT", sign above it now.Started to be installed about July,14,2008.Bottom line, your opinions and/or problems are considered pesky little interferences from the workers;and all your grievances are viewed as,"The game plan is working".
5.Not happy here? Leave. How trite can you get?We covered this subject back when you were probably first dreaming of getting the coveted Red Shirt with all the power and authority it conveyed to the wearer.
Basically, for your benefit,we aren't leaving because of RESPECT and DIGNITY and everything those two words convey pertaining to Fedex and its attitude and policies towards its employees.
6.Strike pay.If I made nothing on the picket line I wouldn't complian, and I wouldn't care if the union bosses were/do make more.Thats irrelevent(doesn't matter)The point is we are united in an effort to overthrow this throwback to the 19th century labor practices.Whose success, may I remind you,is why you enjoy the standard of living you do.
So while your management(real or wanna be)leanings lead you toward your attitude, you might want to thank a union member for standing up for you.
Finally,if you are just going to spout corporate speak from the junior managers playbook save it we've heard it all before.
That is if you're going to bring it be equipped.

Over the past 2 years I have lost the bulk of my pension ( the money I relied on for retirement) and have been lied to by Fedex about an increased 401K match to make up for it. Meanwhile, the amount of money Fedex spends on golf, race cars and football is on the rise.

I know one thing. The union would get me back my pension and hold Fedex to at least some of the many promises they have made to the people who make them their money.
