U.S. Chamber of Commerce Elected 2009 Scrooge of the Year

By jwjnational, on December 21st, 2009

The Chamber’s narrow, radical agenda advocating for anti-worker, profit-focused solutions to the broken health care, labor, and environmental systems garnered them the most votes for the national Jobs with Justice “Scrooge of the Year” award.
Thousands of votes were cast in the Jobs with Justice annual contest to determine which greedy, cold-hearted organization or person deserves the title “Scrooge of the Year.” Voters chose the Chamber of Commerce as their winner this year as it’s became increasingly clear that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has developed into a front group for a few narrow interests, not a membership association that represents the voice of mainstream American businesses. The Chamber has spent millions of dollars lobbying against legislation that would benefit workers and families like the Employee Free Choice Act, health insurance reform, paid sick days, and environmental regulations. Their extreme positions have led some companies and local chapters of the Chamber to disaffiliate from the national group.

Now it makes sense why FedEx supports or is part of the Chamber of Commerce!

I am a part timer at WHT. Every time I go in to work at WHT the trailer caller on PM Mike Hughes yells at me and cusses at me when I am trying to do my job. I am tired of it. I want to go to human resources to stop this harassment, but I fear that human resources is just for the supervisors and do not care about my side of the story. What can I do with the Teamsters so that Mike will stop harassing me for no reason? I stay anonymous because I know that the supervisors at WHT like Mike Hughes, Jay, Jorge, and Carlos Arzate will harass me non stop for saying anything on this Union website. I see them sometimes reading this blog site in the offices.

Is it true that Fedex is targeting to get rid of employees who are age 45 and older??? If so this is age discrimination.

That's crazy I remember managers reading the blog site in the offices too and then they would swear up and down that they don't read them.

You're right and damn smart not to lose sight of this fact. Of course, they want your side if there is a question of legality, but for the most part, harassment is not against the law. It's hard to say what is harassment and what is "enforcing the rules for the employee's own good."

It will always. . .ALWAYS come down to your word against theirs. (And don't forget that they have a team of in-house lawyers.)

Yes and yes.

But it comes down to one not-so-simple pretext: prove it.

I heard John hinckley reads the blog site too. Merry Christmas John thanks for tearing apart what was left of viking. great job buddy way to tear up everybodys' retirement pension, no 401k match, harass pro union employees, and cut full timers thanks a lot chief

Jimmy John Hinkley is not cutting anything he is just the messenger all this changes are not his idea they are all coming from those renecks in harrison you moron

This is true. Hinkley and company are only puppets to the corporate hacks from back east, I reckon.

Hinckley is just as guilty for not doing the right thing and sticking up for his employees. I don't feel sorry for him nor do I cut him any slack. I support the Teamsters and not these managers at Fedex. I don't trust a word out of their mouths anymore. Its time to stand up and be counted not kiss a managers' ass or be sympathetic cause you have known him forever. He doesn't give a damn about you.
Hinckley + Harrison Arkansas Guys = the same damn thing

sorry anonymous if John is your fishing buddy but he is just the same as these back east bozos

Anonymous whats your excuse of why John Hinckley harasses pro Union employees?? I work at WHT sometimes and I hate to see Sal harassed by supervisors and managers and I have seen it first hand.

Dear Jimmy
All of the orders come from back east. Hinkley is just a yes man who does what he's told. He does not care for you or your family. The best answer is to come to meetings in orange and get involved. From what I hear its teamster time on January 9th 8:30 am.

I am ready to sign a union card just like all the other employees on wht am
