I have worked for fedex a long time and it seems to me as if fedex management puts hourly employees out there trying to represent the management's point of view. Trying to intimidate employees or control the non union point of view only. It is sad to see other employees follow along this reckless and uncaring path. I hope employees start looking between the lines and realize HR is just there so that you won't sue the company, the vpep is just a scam to pacify employees so that employees will be happy making less money per hour, and so are the barbeques. Larry I wish you'd join us and realize that a binding union contract is a hell of a lot better than an empty company promise. The company promises a revamped pension plan but the reality is that I will make less or about the same with this new pension plan when I retire. As far as I'm concerned the new pension plan and the 401k retirement scam is just a band aid over a broken arm in fedex's weak attempt to control employees. Other issues which need to be fixed are part time dockworkers need affordable decent medical coverage fot themselves and their families, retiree medical benefits, better hourly pay for all employees, and no more favortism for job advancement. The employees of fedex are banding together. The employees are the union we are in this together in a redistribution of power which will help working families not corporate domination. We are not bringing in outsiders we are the union and so are you Larry. Think about it. Organize for your rights.

Everyone thinks that just becuase I feel the way I do, that management has anything to do with it. Its just an excuse for my actions. You need a reason for me being the way that I am. So what do you do, you make it up, you guys posted my own little blog on here..... and what? did you think I wouldnt answer? Do you think that you can say whatever you want and not be told anything. You think that you have more rights then me? And before you answer that...think first. You all post your signs, and then what....nothing. I post mine with a hell no...and you are hurt by it? What the hell did you think you did when you posted yours... make me smile? Your right about not knowing me..... so dont try to understand me. I dont believe in giving up or letting others speak for me, so why would I let any of you. Im not speaking for anyone else other then me. Yes, a lot of others feel the same way, but I still only speak for myself. Answer me this. If all of you with the sign believe in the union so much, why do only a couple of you post the signs everyday? Now thats a hell of a following, dont you think so? If it is that important to all of you then why not push more? I will not judge you or anyone of the others, but dont expect me to be judged and not say anything. Dont take pictures of my truck and ewxpect me to smile. Dont write about me and think that im gonna sit here and say nothing. The more you irritate me, the more I irritate all of you. I put my name on these so you will understand that im not playing, im serious about my opinions. So dont confuse me with someone else that cant man up and put their name on their own comments. Larry

The FedEx GFT:

When kangaroos hold court

What's it like to GFT an unfair practice or firing at FedEx?

Do all managers receive special, expert training on how to handle you? Yes

Does the typical employee have any expertise at all to draw upon? No

Can the grievant bring a supportive co-worker or lawyer as a witness? No

Can the grievant tape record the proceedings? No

Can the grievant at least effectively take notes? No [1]

Do you have access to a database of similar cases that might help you? No

Do you have adequate time to prepare your case? No

How many managers participate against you during the GFT? 3 or more

Would you expect managers to "stick together" against you? Yes

Are all hearings conducted in person? No [2]

Is management penalized for missing their own time deadlines? No

Does management choose the "personnel rep" and pay his salary? Yes

Are personnel reps typically ex-managers? Yes

Do neutral arbitrators decide the outcome of your GFT? No

Then who does decide the fate of your GFT? management

How many "hats" does management wear during the GFT process? 5 [3]

Will the new "unsafe act/injury appeals board" function any differently? No

[1] You are concentrating on listening, answering & asking questions, and stating your case, not taking notes. Plus, if you are stressed out, you are unlikely to effectively take notes anyway. Plus, unless you are proficient at shorthand, you cannot jot down comprehensive notes fast enough to keep pace with normal conversation.
[2] Typically, one or more managers are far away "at the end of a phone line" in a conference call, preventing you from looking them in the eye while you state your case. A terminated grievant was recently forced to teleconference from her own home, unable to face even a single accusing manager.
[3] Count 'em: 1) prosecutor, 2) public defender [personnel rep], 3) judge, 4) jury, and 5) executioner. A guaranteed conflict of interest, designed to work totally against you!

FedEx Teamster
An eye-opening COMPARISON: Management's Grievance
GFT Procedure

Who establishes the procedure and ground rules? mgt. negotiated [1]

Can mgt. unilaterally change or abolish the process? Yes No

Does anybody help you prepare your case? No Yes [2]

Are you allowed a pro-active witness at proceedings? No Yes [2]

Do you elect a qualified, co-worker peer to represent you? No Yes [2]

Do you have helpful access to a database of similar cases? No Yes [3]

How long do warning letters stay active in your file? 18 months 9 months [4]

Does one warning letter disqualify internal Job Changes? Yes No [4]

Can three un-related warning letters result in termination? Yes No [4]

Is management penalized for failure to meet deadlines? No sometimes

[1] A grievance procedure is established in a legal, binding Teamster contract. Union members must vote approval before a contract proposal can take effect.
[2] The Union steward your co-workers democratically elected from amongst yourselves.
[3] Your Union keeps files of cases and the precedents they set.
[4] Teamster contract at UPS.

What happens at a "kangaroo court"?
Powerful & hostile bullies surround and kick the daylights out of an unprepared and defenseless victim. Doesn't management's GFT fraud figuratively do the same? Do you want the outcome of a minor complaint, an unfair warning letter, or the fate of your job, depending on such a biased procedure?

No wonder big-business surveys funded by corporate America praise the Federal Express GFT! Not only is the FedEx employee's "goose cooked," but we are deceived into thinking we actually have a chance! Now you know why those surveys don't cover Union grievance procedures.

The harassment and total disrespect of Whittier Employees is continuing. Whittier employee/shop steward/teamster organizer Sal Hernandez hurt his back a couple of weeks ago. It was proven he was injured by lifting up a defective ramp. Which was the ramp manufacturer's fault for Sal Hernandez being injured. Sal went home 2 hours after he was hurt. He trying to tough it out for the safety streak at Whittier even working injured not to let his brothers down. Sal went home intending to rest for a couple of days then returning to work. He received a call from his boss telling him to go see the butcher company doctor at the clinic. Sal then reluctantly agreed and went to go see the butcher. The butcher then told Sal that he could return to work under the pretext of light duty. Sal then told the doctor, "But my back hurts how am I supposed to do light duty."
The butcher told him that he (Sal) should be at home resting, but that he (the butcher) had to mark Sal down for light duty because Fedex had instructed the doctor to do so and that was law. Sal then remarked back,"What is that Fedex law????" The doctor remained quiet. This injury was marked down by the butcher as light duty so Fedex wouldn't have to pay workmans compensation to Sal so Sal could stay home. This is done to all Fedex employees even ones that get extremities cut off at work. This is just another ruthless deceptive scam from Fedex management. So Sal reported back to work where he was isolated from other employees put to work in the driver trainer's office away from other employees and under the watchful eyes of the driver trainers. See since Sal is for the union the company tries to watch, intimidate, and harass him even follow him into the bathroom. So Sal is working when the terminal manager brings Sal avocados from his tree at home saying that God was talking to him (the terminal manager) and that God instructed him to give those avocados to Sal. Sal was perplexed by this questioning the sanity of the service center manager because on one hand the service center manager harasses him on the dock calls him names, cusses at him, and on the other hand the service center manager has a conversation with God and God instructs him to bring fruit to Sal. I didn't know the service center manager has a hotline to God, buy anyways, Sal keeps working but informs his operations manager that he needs to take the rest of the week off in order for his back to fully heal. The service center manager and operations manager agree and Sal informs them he needs to use his sick pay for his time off for when he is sick. They agree and Sal takes off for the week. When Sal comes back to work he is informed that his vacation pay was used for his time off and his vacation scheduled for the summer will now have to be cancelled. Sal then confronts the operations manager and the operations manager tells him they never had a converation about Sal using his sick pay and now his vacation is cancelled. Sal becomes terribly disappointed and tells the operations manager that he will talk to the service center manager or the labor board if need be and the operations manager came back with;"Do whatever you have to do I don't care." Sal then said,"Ok." Sal then tried to contact the service center manager who had the day off then he went home and contacted human resources and the representative from human resources told Sal that using the vacation time as a substitute for sick pay is company policy and that he could do nothing about it. Sal then asked why weren't the employees informed of this policy change. Human resources then informed Sal that inquires to human resources were the only way policy changes to the fedex handbook could now be obtained. Sal then resigned himself and depressed at the situation hung up the phone. It is sad a 18 year company man gets treated this way when he becomes injured on the job. I guess you need to be careful and not get hurt cause you could get screwed too.

on the article on kanaroos holding court its more like monkeys holding court with these management people and I heard no vpep again that ok cause I normally get like 30 dollars on my vpep only. I dont know why we have barbqs cause we already get the weenie everyday anywayz. c-ya UNIONIZE FEDEX NOW!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

this is very sad to me. We dont get V-PEP and you cry. yours is only like 30 dollars, so this means you dont work many hours and are part time. well let me explain what my first V-PEP was like.........$2.50. yeah you still wanna cry about your 30 dollars. And i am deeply disturbed to read that you get the weenie everyday, because if i were you, i would be saying that or letting it be done. If you dont like the BBQ's, then next time dont eat. If you dont like your V-PEP then turn it back in. I can tell that you havnt been there too long, or you would know that we dont normally get V-PEP dec, jan,or feb. But last year we did, it barely slowed down last year. We hit a ,i believe, something in the numbers of 23 months back to back on V-PEP. now dont quote me on that but i do know is was a while. Larry
