FedEx Says 'No' to Union Busting

Submitted by teamstersadmin on Wed, 09/16/2009 - 12:10.

In a surprising change from the standard practice of their U.S.-based parent company, FedEx Canada President David Binks has acknowledged FedEx workers right to join the Teamsters Union in Canada.

In a September 15, 2009 memo to FedEx Express Canada employees he promises there will be no “threats or reprisals” against employees who choose to sign a Teamsters Union card.

Assuming President Binks means what he says….this is a huge victory for Canadian FedEx workers at this early stage of the Teamsters organizing campaign. Now everyone at FedEx Canada can feel free to sign a union card without the usual intimidation and scare tactics companies routinely use to block organizing campaigns south of the border.

But just in case this sounds too good to be true you can help us keep FedEx honest in Canada by reporting any threats, intimidation or other anti-union activities by visiting the our File a Complaint section.

A Better Deal For FedEx

Rude,
you've been at it for three years now...and to no avail. You've posted countless posts that prove you're borderline literate. When do you figure out you're part of the problem, not part of the solution?

If a union job is so great, why haven't you quit and gone to work for ABF, YRC or Reddaway???

Get real dude, you're a loser.

To Fed Up Fred Caudill:

I have been working for FedEx/Viking for 15 yrs. In the past, I have thought the Union was unnecessary. Over the last 2-3 yrs., however, I have seen FedEx whittle away at what Viking had set up for and with us.

We have lost any sort of understandable bonus; We have lost reliable people who we trusted and worked with on the dock; Line Drivers have lost thousands of dollars... We have lost any sort of open door policy with the management we used to work for.

Now, all we get is B.S. snapshot twits, incomprehensible or illiterate corporate memos, and meaningless plaudits. The last includes "The Purple Promise"(I try to make every FedEx experience memorable is a nonsensical idea.) and "Things will be restored when the economy comes around"(In view of the last examples FedEx has pulled over the last few years, I seriously doubt or trust anything that the corporate body says or does).

Rudy, Joe, and other individuals, have been perceptive enough to see that there are alternatives to working with blind corporate management. They have been the ones who are willing to make a stand and ask the questions that we are not, because we are afraid of losing anything more.

But, if we don't ask those questions, or take the risks that Rudy and Joe have, then Corporate FedEx has won... We have given up and given in without any fight.

At least some of us tried.

It is against the NLRB to fire or discriminate a worker that is in favor to join organize or form a union it is the law of the land about a year ago fedex freight violated the NLRB law by firing two union organizers for being part of the labor movement"TAEMSTER UNION" Jesse Lopez whittier ca Tito Ayala anaheim ca remember that fedex freight can fire you for any reason "ATWILL" aver since this two drivers were fired the company haven't fire any other union supporter or organizer thanks to Jesse and Tito read the NLRB that say anyone employed ATWILL who want to pursue a case against an employer for alleged wrongful discharge or retaliation should seek advice from a private attorney that's exactly right what this two drivers did they're sueing fedex freight for wrongful termination and unfair labor practice this two workers have been the ones who are wiling to make a stand and ask the question that we are not becouse we are afraid of losing our job at least they tried to make fedex freight a better place to work where you can get a benefits fair treatment dignity and respect we hope they win their case and come back to work soon thanks your fedex freight brothers and sisters pro union.

I'M NOT A SMOKER SO HAVING A CHOICE OF NON SMOKING EQUIPMENT TO DRIVE WAS GREAT, THE PROBLEM IS SOME SMOKERS STILL LIT UP WHEN THEY DROVE OUR TRUCKS AFTER OUR 8 HOURS WAS UP RIGHT THERE ON THE DASH WAS A BIG NO SMOKING STICKER. SO A FEW SCREWED IT UP FOR YOU FOLKS. HOWEVER THE OTHER PROBLEM IS MOST SERVICE CENTERS ALLOW SMOKERS TO LIT UP RIGHT OUTSIDE THE WALKWAYS AND OFFICE DOORS. THERE IS A LAW THAT SAYS 25 FEET AWAY FROM ANY PLACE WHERE EMPLOYEES HAVE TO ENTER OR PASS THRU TO GET TO OR FROM YOUR JOB. THIS IS MORE OF A PROBLEM FOR MOST OF NON SMOKERS. WHAT TIME IS OUR NEXT UNION MEETING IN OCY, WERE READY TO MOVE ON THIS ISSUE SO LETS GET THE TEAMSTERS TOGETHER AND MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
